Unpacking "The Best Revenge"

"Living well is the best revenge." "Happiness is the best revenge." "A smile is the best revenge." "Success is the best revenge."

These are but a few examples of the phrase "the best revenge" that I found in a simple Google search just now.

I even found this one in our kitchen. (Oh, the horror!)

None of them imply physical violence against anyone.

The President has said "Voting is the best revenge."

His opponents are "shocked," like Louis Renault discovering gambling in a casino. But surely know they are trying to create a "meme" out of this.

Let's get real. Seriously.

No, the President is not literally suggesting physical violence against Republicans or white people.

No, this is not proof that he is an angry black man (Sorry, Dinesh...)

In fact, the context of the comment was a booing crowd. He was, in fact, suggesting the opposite of violence. He was suggesting instead of booing your political enemy, just go vote.

THAT'S the best revenge.... Like happiness. Like living well. Like eating well. Like a smile. Like success.

Any other more sinister interpretation of this is sorry and pitiful fear-mongering at the end of a long election.

And those who are doing it should be ashamed of themselves.
